Grief & Loss Work

Grief Is Just Love,
With Nowhere To Go.

Loss isn't something to "get over." It's something to carry — differently, gently, eventually with more light than weight. Grief therapy at Christie Heart gives you a safe, patient, unrushed space to honor the person, the relationship, the version of life you lost, and find your way back to meaning.

What It Is

Grief Therapy Doesn't Take Away The Pain. It Teaches You To Carry It.

There is no "right" way to grieve. There is only your way — and you don't have to do it alone. Grief & Loss Work at Christie Heart combines the Stroebe & Schut Dual Process Model, Worden's Four Tasks of Mourning, and gentle attachment-informed practices to help you process what happened without losing the love you carry for what's gone.

This work honors every kind of loss — not just death. Breakups, infertility, lost dreams, pet loss, estranged relationships, career endings, living loss of someone who is still here but changed. If it hurt to lose, it deserves to be mourned.

“Grief is the price you pay for love and what a beautiful thing my grief is.”

— Nigel Edokpolo

Kinds Of Loss We Walk With

Every Loss Has A Different Shape. Every Grief Deserves To Be Seen.

You don't need a death certificate or a dramatic ending for your loss to be "real." If it changed your world, it belongs here.

🕊️

Death Of A Loved One

The loss that breaks the world. Parent, partner, child, sibling, friend — any death that rearranged the furniture of your life.

Common Journey: Shock → waves of emotion → learning the "new normal" → carrying their love forward in small, meaningful ways.
💔

Relationship Loss & Divorce

The death of a future you planned with someone. Divorce, breakup, estrangement — even when you chose it, it still hurts.

Common Journey: Relief mixed with sorrow → identity reconfiguration → "what if" processing → rebuilding a life that is yours alone.

Loss Of Dreams & Identity

The version of your life that won't happen. Infertility, empty nest, career end, disability diagnosis, migration grief.

Common Journey: "Everyone else is fine" aloneness → letting yourself actually mourn → creating a new, different dream that also fits.
🐾

Ambiguous & Living Losses

Someone is still here — but not the someone you knew. Dementia, addiction, TBI, emotional cutoff, parental alienation.

Common Journey: Repeated micro-losses → guilt of "mourning someone who's alive" → radical acceptance → permission to grieve the relationship that was.
Stages You Might Be In

Wherever You Are In Grief — That's Exactly Where We'll Start.

🪨

Early Days (0-6 Months)

Fresh, raw, unrecognizable. You might not even remember eating yesterday.

Shock, numbness, disbelief
Physical symptoms (sleepless, chest pain)
Trouble with practical tasks
Waves that come out of nowhere
🌊

Mid Grief (6 Months - 2 Years)

The world is starting to move forward, and you're not sure you want to.

Anger, guilt, bargaining
Anniversaries & trigger moments
"Why me?" and unfairness
Loneliness that doesn't lift
🌻

Integrated Grief (2+ Years)

You have "good days" now — and that itself can feel like betrayal.

Guilt for laughing again
How to carry them forward
Meaning-making after loss
Yearning without being swallowed
What It Gives You

4 Things Grief Work Actually Does — Nothing To "Fix," Everything To Hold.

🤲

Permission To Feel

No "stay strong" here. Every tear, every anger burst, every quiet longing — it all belongs.

🏞️

Your New Normal

Learn to live in the world after loss — not "get back to normal," because normal is gone forever.

💛

Continuing Bond

Maintain a loving, living connection to what you lost — not stuck in the past, but carried forward beautifully.

🪄

Meaning Reconstruction

Ask and gently answer: "What does this loss mean for the rest of my life, and how do I live it well?"

Session Rhythm

A Grief Session Is Not A Plan. It's A Container.

01

Safety & Grounding

We meet wherever you are today. If you need 15 minutes just to breathe, we breathe.

02

Invite What's Here

What are you carrying today? A memory? A regret? A gratitude? A "what if"?

03

Hold It Together

Nigel doesn't "guide" grief. He witnesses it, holds it with you, and never rushes.

04

One Small Practice

A tiny, gentle thing — not homework — to hold the feeling between sessions.

Questions

Grief FAQ

Is there a "right" amount of time to grieve?

+

Absolutely not. Anyone who tells you "you should be over it by now" doesn't understand grief. Two weeks or two decades — your grief belongs to you, and it lasts as long as your love lasts. Our job is to help you integrate it so it stops drowning you, not to make it "go away."

Is my loss "big enough" for therapy?

+

Yes. Full stop. If it changed your life, it is big enough for therapy. A beloved pet, a job of 20 years, a friend who ghosted, a dream that shattered — grief doesn't measure loss on a scale. It only knows: something that mattered is gone.

What if I come in and can't stop crying the whole time?

+

That's perfect. That's exactly what the space is for. Nigel has tissues, water, weighted blankets, grounding techniques for when it gets too big — and zero judgment. You can cry for the full 50 minutes and not say a single word, and it will still be a good, healing session.
